Kurt Axelron (AKA Kurt Axel) rose from obscurity to moderate fame as a pop-culture hairstylist in the mid-1990s. His salon, Hair Von Fantasteek (after his professional pseudonym), was a popular hangout for quasi-celebrities. After a tragic fire in which he lost his salon and three trained chimpanzees, Kurt moved into his grandmother’s house and became despondent and reclusive.
When a friend signed him up for a correspondence course on writing poetry, he experienced a surge of create energy that would catapult him into a new life. Soon after Kurt began writing poetry, he attended an open-mic poetry reading performance at a local comedy club. It was at this club that he, according to legend, met Alex Turk.* Their fates became strangely fused when they formed the secret Dead Pocket Society, a mysterious gathering of unusual and misunderstood artists, musicians, writers, poets, brick layers, weightlifters, belly dancers, and engineers.
After a few years, and with the new sense of self he gained through his poetry, Kurt embarked on a complete renovation of his life. He moved to Dallas, Texas and began creating websites for manure transport and fertilizer supply companies.**
Kurt has veiled himself in an obscure and homogenous identity that provides the isolation from society he has sought since childhood. He continues to write poetry and create websites. On occasion he can be seen strolling through the malls humming a self-penned, autobiographical song, ”I Am Not a Spaceman or a Scientist.”
Since April, 2006, Kurt has been instrumental in the workings of the DPS. Among his many functions are Director of Operatic Movements, Reassembler Extraordinaire, Computer Guru, Gadget Guy, The Guy Who Always Has Spare Change To Loan, and Executioner of Dethroned Executives.
